Can You Tie It In A Bow?

I go through multiple fashion phases.  Usually daily.  Sometimes even hourly.  From ultra-frilly and feminine to mucho and majorly masculine.  And just about everything in between.  But I always seem to go back to wanting to ' check ' off one piece in particular from my accessory checklist: the bow tie.  The blue-r and plaid-er, the better, too, I say.   So all in all, it could be considered a check, check and check .

Slip N Stride

I'm like a giddy little girl any time I am oh-so-luckily gifted with anything sartorial in nature.  I excitedly wait by the front door, looking out the window, while the delivery person pulls up and plops down another cardboard box onto my doorstep as he/she rings my doorbell.  As soon as I open (and close) the door, I run into the kitchen, grab a pair of scissors, and rip open the box to see what's waiting inside for me.  Today's lucky ducky loot?  This patterned pair o' Vans that I plan on doing nothing but slippin' on and stridin' in wherever the warm weather here takes me ...

Cuff Love

I never really fell for the whole friendship bracelet craze back in the day.  I was too focused on mismatching my neon socks and adjusting my sky-high side ponytail to worry about how many of the brightly-colored things I'd happened to have accumulated on my wrist.  But seeing today's new grown-up versions has me starting to rethink my whole stubborn style stance on the subject.   How 'bout you?

Pinking Sheers

I must have been receiving some sort of cosmic style subliminal messaging when I was drafting this particular post because as I was in the process of searching for an image to perfectly portray what I was trying to get across with my new sheer pink pout obsessions, thanks to Ms. Anastasia (again) and my gifted See And Be Seen Kit, the photograph that I finally decided was  'the one'  just so happened to have the model sporting the exact  same pompadour-ish 'do as mine as I tippity-typed away.

Getting To The Point

Round-toe?  Uh-uh.  Peep-toe?  Nope.  Square-toe?  I don't think so.  But pointy-toe? Oh yeah.  That's the tootsie ticket.  At least that's what everyone and everything fashion-y has been telling me is right back in again regarding this shoe shape's superstar status-ed rise and comeback as of late.  So after seeing the purdy purple-y striped pumps up there ... I'm totally game.  And in.  In like Flynn.  Which means all that's left to do is find my own low-priced pair to toe-tap and click around town in.

Bounce With Me

Being a self-proclaimed beauty junkie by having never met a lipstick, blush or liner that I haven't instantly put into the "absolutely LOVE IT" cosmetic category ... it's no surprise (or at least shouldn't be) that as soon as something brand new debuts, I gotta have it, never knowing how I've lived this long without it.  Take Maybelline's new Dream Bouncy Blush, for instance.  'Cause who doesn't want a glowy pink, pinched-cheek  face, huh?  Who???   So come on and bounce with me, bounce with me.

Heart-Shaped Frocks

I've been locked into the idea of wearing heart-shaped frocks for weeks.  (That switched-around sentence goes out today to all the fellow Nirvana/Kurt Cobain fans out there in the blogosphere.  You're welcome and good night.)  Well maybe not for weeks, but certainly ever since seeing it on the terrifically-tattooed lady in this post's pic.  Which, of course, means that I must own one now.  Oh wait.  Hang on a sec.  My wallet literally just tried to bury itself even further down into my purse in hopes of not being used for such a purchase. But too bad so sad, wallet o'mine, 'cause I already found my top two pretty picks which means there's no place you can hide  ...

Chalky Resi-'do

Ok.  Here's the deal.  I'm halfway there with my wanting some brightly-colored hair. It's always funny to me how something like possible pink locks takes so much more time for me to muster up the courage to do in the grand scheme of things; especially since it all ends up being so very temporary to my tresses eventually.  Anyway.  I'm trying really really hard to have the full-on super-soaked strands effect up top, but I'm still a teeny-tiny bit timid to color every last piece of hair on the ol' head, so I figured I could at least do my tips with this bubble-y, chalky little color bug in the meantime.  You know, until I do decide on my eventual (and completely) doused 'do.

Medal Of Honor

It's lookin' like Rebecca of The Clothes Horse and I not only share the same nifty-rific lil' name, but also an aesthetic affinity for all things Wes Anderson-y in nature too; (apparently) including medals as well because the very minute that I saw that 'Badger of Honor' pinned-on medal up there over in her blogging neck of the woods, I thought of this character from this fantastic little film which REALLY makes me think we could have a new nifty nickname for one another too: Brooch(ing) Buddies.

Wants And Needs

I really, truly (cross-my-heart, honestly) didn't think it possible for me to like Need Supply and their wondermously-woo-y wears any more than I already do and did, but after seeing this clever Wes Anderson-inspired Spring 2012 video lookbook of theirs up there, well  ...  it's official that I now know that the impossible  IS   possible.

Paper Baggin' It

In 3-D!!  And I'm sure you're thinkin', 'Huh?' 'Whaa?' right about now, but stay with me and just look how much freakin' cooler this bag gets (if that's even possible at this point) when you see it with a model holding it.  It's all cartoon-y fabulous and stuff now, isn't it?!?  Gosh.  It makes me want, if I would go out and buy one already, to introduce myself to everyone I meet, as follows: Hi.  My name is The-raddest-purse-carryin'-chick-in-town.  So nice to meet you.  Yeah.  Ooo.  No.  Wait.  YOU should just go out and get yourself one too 'cause then we could introduce each other as the totin' twinsies.  Uh-huh.  I like that idea.  I like that much  better.  Don't you??

Crowning Touch

My love for all things flowered, corsage-y and pinned obviously never ever waning while my heart still has a beat has made me come to the realization today, in fact this very typing minute, that I need - not just want - but NEED to go online to ban.do as soon as I post this and nab at least a dozen of these pom pom pretties so I can have my own crowning touch of total and complete style-stranded chicness  too.

Drille Sargeants

Ready for blog style confession #3008?  I don't wear socks.  Hardly ever.  The only time I do is when it is absolutely necessary for the health and warmth of my feet. You know, when it's raining or snowing outside and I gotta pull on a pair with boots or something.  But that's it.  I don't even like to sleep with the things on.  They drive me absolutely bonkers.  So obviously my favorite time of year is whenever I can go without 'em.  Like in the spring and summer when espadrilles become part of my uniform. Which makes me think I should probably order some pastel-y pairs from J.Crew now so I can be prepared for when that coveted sans socks day finally comes.

The Eye-nstein Of Lashes

That How-Now-Brow-Wow maven, Anastasia, is at it again.  This time though, she's transferred some of that renowned eye expertise onto our wanting to safeguard our super lovely and luscious lashes upon lashes with her beyond brilliant waterproof topcoat called Lash Genius.  One swipe of this clear protective coating, and I'm telling you, people: Not a budge, smudge or flake in sight.  For, like, the whole gosh darn day. Not one eensy-weensy little bit.  And at just 21 dollars, well, let's just say this bargainer and her wittle wallet can  most DEFINITELY see eye-to-eye on that  too.

Chalkin' It Up

Given that three out of the four walls of my bedroom are plastered with chalkboard vinyl stickers in various shapes and sizes, I bet it can be easily deduced that I like me some chalk-related accessories.  Or anything resembling the colorful writing tool, for that matter.  A lot.  A lot  a lot.  And it looks like I'm not the only one since notTuesday seems to as well.  Now all I gotta do is choose which one to show off first.

Nailing An Outline

As much as I've pondered what I've concluded to be the particularly painstaking paint process of these black and white outlined nails, I can't help but think how freakin' cool I would feel to walk around town with these daring-ly drastic little digits on (my) hand.  Even if for only a day or two before the inevitable and forever-annoying chipping sets in.  Totally worth it says I-think-I-just-GOTS-to-try-it me.

Tatted And Torn

It should go without saying now that I am the biggest still-don't-have-one, (not a one) tat-total-and-completely-bananas-for-'em fan.  Because I've lost count on just how many times I've posted pics of ink throughout this blog's creation that I think I'd really like to get on that infamous someday I'm always blog-babbling on about.  But this rose is SO SUPER PRETTY.  So I don't think I should be judged (or blamed) for including it in here today on my 'maybe one day soon-ish' wishlist.   No, no I do not.

In The Army Now

I'm a-gonna state something here in a second that should be pretty painfully obvious by now.  So brace yourselves.  'Cause it ain't no shocker.  Not even a little bit.  Ready?  I'm a sucker for a sale.  Especially a shoe  sale.  There.  I said it.  And I heard no audible gasps as I did so, which makes me figure what I already knew and should just go ahead and legally change my middle name to that sweet-sounding four letter word immediately, right?  But when there's white hot, 50% off, army boots staring right at me through my computer screen, I just can't see how I could ever be held accountable for any and all price purchases made within that time frame, you know?

Purple People Feeters

I didn't think I'd still be needing to talk about covering up my legs this late in the supposed-to-be-sunny-now season(al) game.  But I guess the joke's on me because the weatherpeople here have been threatening (a little too gleefully for my liking, I might add) an impending thunderstorm that's a-gonna rain down on us any minute now.  It's like Spring looked around our mountainous Beehive State and decided it didn't wanna stay here this year.  Oh well.  Its loss.  Just means I get to wear more tights like these shade-tastic purple people feeters longer. Take that, Mother Nature.  Word.

Pucker Punch: Gorgeous Bright Lipsticks

While dark berry and mauve lips are great for winter, springtime is now here. This means you can lighten up a little in your clothes, your choice of scent and your makeup. Bright lips might seem hard to pull off, but they can actually be very simple. The secret is keeping the rest of your makeup low-key, so that the bold lip can stand out and pull it all together. Here are some great options to try out:

1.  Orange Lipstick – Take a look at Scarlett Johansson for some inspiration, if you don’t believe that an orange lip can be beautiful. This lip is super bright but also softer than a similar red color would be. If you’re looking for a type to try, check out Illamsqua’s Flare color at your local Sephora. Pair it with a spring dress or romper and you’ve got an excellent bright look.

2.  Bright Pink Lip Stain – I love lip stains. They’re easy to wear and, if you’re a no-fuss type of gal, you might find them less of a hassle than lipstick. Most stains last at least several hours between applications. This photo can give you an idea of how a bright pink lip looks. Don’t forget to exfoliate your lips and moisturize first before applying stain. If you’re interested in learning more makeup skills or becoming a beauty professional, check out the information at www.cosmetologyschool.net/.

3.  Coral Lipstick – Coral lips are a great compromise if you’re afraid of other bright shades. Coral has just the right combo of red and orange, so you’ll be bright without feeling like a stop sign (or tangerine). Take Beyonce’s lead and make the coral lip ready for a night out with gel eyeliner. Revlon’s ColorBurst line has a great coral color for under $10. The look can also be downplayed when running errands after your courses or at the office, if you ditch the bottom eyeliner and keep it light on the blush.

Matchmaker, Matchmaker

I have no shame in admitting that there have been times in my current single-lived life that I have seriously considered joining or signing up for one of the many matchmaking sites I see flashing on my TV screen like a gazillion times a day; only because I envision that exact kind of a man right up there, the apple of my esthetic eye, being my perfect match.  But I have also had a nagging little feeling there was a reason why I've always held off, resisted the urge. And after seeing this, now I know why.  I've already found mine in a canine named Sid.  And we're gonna live happily ever after.  Right up until that mustachioed man up there decides to make us a trio.

Nude And Improved

Had a super major make-up breakthrough moment.  Being as pathetically pale as I am come Spring and Summer, I vowed to do something COMPLETELY different this year when the sun finally comes out, steering clear of my usual black-lined cat eye and ruby red lip.  Here it is.  You ready?  I'm a-gonna be a bronzed beauty.  OH, YES I AM.  I've already gotten started with some white hot hair and this miracle cream that turns me all golden goddess-y and plan on finishing it off by pairing it with a natural-looking Mr. Ford lip.   So you can go ahead and call me Nude and Improved.

Hot In The City: Cute Hairstyles For Warm Days

Spring is officially here and summer will be here soon. Unfortunately, in the concrete and smog of the urban environment, this can mean rising temperatures and sticky hair. For those of us with hairdos longer than a pixie cut, we need some new warm day style options. Fortunately, updos can be easy to wear, and range from super casual to sophisticated. Here are some options to try out:

  • Side French BraidThis is a style to try if you’re in need of a romantic and glamorous look. The side French braid can be great for a casual spring day in the park or a fancy dinner, depending on how you approach it. Keeping the ponytail end of the hair down in a normal braid makes it more easy-going, while pinning it up into a snood or bun makes it glam. If you’re new to French braiding, you’ll want to spend a little time with the tutorial; it’s not one to attempt on the fly when you only have 15 minutes to head out the door.

  • Voluminous Side Braid – Bella Sugar recommends this side braid for cycling ladies, and I agree. To master this look, you’ll want day-old hair, volumizing spray, and a teasing comb, unless you have naturally big hair. I’m a huge fan of the “purposefully messy” look, especially when paired with a chic, bold lip color like the orange on the model. Makeup gurus considering turning their craft into a career might be interested in the resources at www.cosmetologyschool.net/.

  • Chignon – For those ladies out there that hit up the office day-in, day-out, it’s time to make the chignon your friend. There’s nothing that screams class quite like this French look, and it’s perfect for when your hair is a bit dirty and you don’t have time to wash it (in fact, it will hold better when hair is not freshly washed). It only requires bobby pins and a ponytail holder.

  • Three Twisted BunsThis playful look is perfect for hanging out on the back of a Vespa scooter or lying on the beach. It’s very easy, yet leaves you with a unique look and a neck that’s free of hair. Dirty hair is once again optimal for this hair style; a little styling cream can also provide a little extra hold to keep your strands in place. If you’re really bent on becoming a hair and esthetics master, you may want to consider earning an online degree in beauty.

    Some Good Ol' Converse-ation

All throughout my elementary school experience, there was a boy I had a not-so-secret crush on. ALL the girls did.  Trust me on that one.  He was a Michael Jordan-worshipping, basketball-playin' star even back then.  Fast forward to my high school experience and the boy with b-ball runnin' through his veins appeared again.  With M.J.'s famous "23" on his blue and silver jersey.  He'd literally carry that orange and black ball in his arms, everywhere he went.  He probably even ate lunch with the thing.  Long story short, when reading the Converse-addled article below, I was reminded of the boy with the basketball and wanted to post it so I forever will be ...

    Converse - Still Innovating

Converse has long been one of the leading shoe manufacturers in the world, and this year sees the brand steeping up their offerings even more. Converse is a well-established name in the fashion industry – mostly due to the unparalleled success of their legendary All-Stars. And although the success of that specific style would have prompted many other brands to slow the pace, what makes Converse shoes different is that they’ve not rested on their laurels.

The brand keeps innovating, and has even released a number of fashion ranges, including men’s jackets and T-shirts. However, this year Converse is taking on the rest of the market by releasing a number of rare and limited edition trainers. The most significant of which combine some of the most famous shoes ever produced, with one of the most admired sportsmen in history – Michael Jordan and the Jordan Brand.

Converse are releasing a limited edition redesign of the shoes Michael Jordan wore 30 years ago when he scored the winning point during the American College NCAA Basketball Championship game. Only 23 pairs will be made and then auctioned off for charity.

Other developments in the Converse camp include the manufacturer’s brand new collaboration designs. Cartoon characters have always been popular as print designs on garments, and Converse’s new range of Wonder Woman trainers are sure to be a hit. DC Comics and Converse have joined forces to produce these shoes, characterised by bold colours, fun designs and a timeless heroine. They can add a fantastic sense of individuality to any look this season.

Finally, Converse has assembled some of the hottest musical talent to collaborate as part of their “Three Artists. One Song” initiative. This time around it’s well-known DJ, A-Trak, Mark Foster, of Foster The People, and Kimbra, best known for her collaboration on Gotye’s recent Somebody that I used to know.

Joy Howard, Vice President of North America Brand Marketing of Converse, said: “Converse is in its seventh Three Artists. One Song series, and with each new collaboration we’re continually blown away by how talented these artists are when they come together to express themselves. Mark Foster, Kimbra, and A-Trak are making some of the most exciting music out there today and we’re thrilled that our partnership with Journeys could be the catalyst for bringing them together.”

Editor's Note:  See what I mean?  How could I not  be giddy with the insta-reminder of my high school, all-star b-baller crush after reading that?!?  What with all the talk of the Michael Jordan limited edition trainers and stuff.  Goodness.  Which, of course, really, really, REALLY makes me wanna go out and buy me my own pair (or two or three) of  'good luck chucks'  just so I can be reminded of it all forever more.  Jeepers.

    Ruby Lippers

I'm always all up for a new technique when it comes to my incessant need for and to wear the rubiest-of-red lips.  I'm even pretty darn sure if it wasn't a complete complexion no-no, that I'd wear them nightly to bed just so I could wake up to them every morning and see them staring back at me in the mirror.  Yeah.  I know.  I love 'em that  much.  Is it a problem?  Probably.  But do I care?  Not in the slightest.  And with Jo's newest lip tip and ASOS' line o' red sticks, I'm thinkin' I may just go ahead and try to enforce my very own stay-put, 24/7-wearing, ruby lippers rule after all.

    Holy Smokes!

The calender says that it's supposed to be Spring, I know.  The birds should be chirping chirpier, the grass getting greener, and the sun getting all sorts of sunnier rather than constantly hiding behind ominous and stormy clouds.  But here's the thing: I like those mysterious greys and blacks that come with these current snow-filled darker days.  So much so that I want to emulate them with my current eye makeup.  Because I happen to think opposites (like my bleach-y blonde white-as-snow hair and kohl-rimmed eyes) attract.  Guess that means that the smoke's on me.

    The Ear In Review

Looks like both Karla and I are having the same gem of an idea by declaring it the year of the ear.  Because there's just something so innately stylish about closely cropped and curled 'dos begging to make a statement with some big, baubled attention around the lobe.  So I went out and found some shoulder-grazing jewels for my own ear-to-ear win.   And it's all thanks to K, the girl with the pearl earring(s).

    Protective Toting

I've got a bargain-blogging reputation to uphold here, you know.  Priding myself in being one of the first to spot the next shiny and new (and always affordable) "It" thing.  Like a golden-y, sequin-y tote that I could carry everything in - including my chichi, Sid - but someone, ahem, Miss Emily beat me to it by modeling it so gosh darn 'Curly Sue-d' cute over on her blog, thanks to Rue.  Now the only thing I can do to protect myself is purchase one to save (blogging) face.  And that's all she, no, I  tote.

    I Wish I Mae

More like I wish I was Mae.  Mae Whitman, that is.  The adorably eccentric and totally cool (verging on a yet-to-exist rad territory all her own) pixie that invades my TV screen every Tuesday night in Parenthoodand who also gets all gussied up in Rachel Antonoff's girly-girl gear too, apparently.  And yes, I want that updated Reality Bites doily dress (BAD) with the oxfords to match, please ... and while I'm at it ... the rest of her entire shoe collaboration with Bass shoes as well.  Oooooh yeah.

    Cleanin' Out My Closet

I've come down with quite the case of Spring Cleanin' Closet Fever over here, people.  I've even made quite the lofty little goal, too: To be just like this girl who dwindled down her entire wardrobe to just one clothing rack's worth.  Yeah.  Uh-huh.  ONE.  (And because I already have the one rolling rack ready at hand).  And why can't it be a fun AND rewarding win-win kind of situation?  That's where the lovely Londoners of Friendly Fashion come in where you can sell (make some $$) AND buy new-to-you pieces.  And with every shoe I have to say buh-bye to, I should be able to say hello to at least one essential pair, right?  I mean, they're leopard Louboutins.  See?  Win-win.

    A Little Birdy Sold Me

I first saw this red-haired girl sitting oh-so-sweetly and kind of bashfully behind her piano on Ellen. Then I heard her.  And was a goner.  Let's be honest, anyone who decides to cover Bon Iver  already has me before they even open their mouth.  But when she did, what came out, was so gosh darn pretty that I couldn't believe I hadn't already heard (of) her.  And now I come to find out she sings on the Hunger Games soundtrack, which just cemented my fan status and CD-buying of her all the more.
